Reviewed: Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

There are quite a number of good games that can be found on Nintendo DS. Some are superb, most are the worse of the megalomic kind made by a bunch of monkey smashing onto a keyboard and hoping against hope that the gamers would not notice that this is but a very bad games or a reincarnation of a good title with bad content.

But let us not go to the dark side. Let us focus on the good games that are worth getting during this Christmas season. (Not that there is not enough must buy list going around the blogs and website nowadays) Lets start off with the review shall we?

Graphic

The graphic of the game is FF3 style graphic frankly. The character are small and petite, the landscapes are in 3D. There is nothing much to say about it if you have played FF3 on NDS. It is more or less of the same kind of graphic. But what blends well though is how the color comes together. It not overly bright and not overly dark in dungeon. The whole thing blended nicely together and coming together to create a game that is superb in design but mundane in graphic ( if you get my drift )

Music

Well what do you know, this is one of the factor I love most of Revenant Wings. The music is just reminisce of a perfect FF game. Soft tone during the save menu, epic music during battles and funky funny music for the rest. The musics sets the tone of the game pretty well. In fact, I like the music in Revenant Wings more then the music in FF3. Granted, that may not be much but it has been quite some time since a game music captured my attention. ( Not taking into account of Subarashi Kono Sekai: It's A Wonderful World which I have just purchased less then [check watch] 10 minutes ago)

Gameplay

The meat of the whole thing, the root of all evil. The downfall of mankind. Or in this case, the downfall of a game. Many if not most gamer are turned back by the genre of RTS due to Heroes of Mana very very useless AI and the long tutorial. I am not even going to talk about the nightmare one has to go through to actually start the game.
But enough of that, Revenanyt Wings gameplay are surprisingly good. The AI is smart, the level is challenging ( at certain point) and there are a number of side-quest which you can do to get further gratification from the game itself.

The game even introduced a skill tree system or in this case, skill round stone plate ( I have no idea what its called) where you can unlock summoned monster which acts as your soldier. Each monster have different attribute, different weakness and strength so a certain planning might be needed before unlocking anything. This alone added quite a few moment of frustration where you are torn between the point of either getting the Ramuh or Cactuar.

Story

You sure you wanna know the story? Really now? Are you sure? Ok ok Highlight the below sentence to get your story

NOT TELLING YOU!

Conclusion

This is a good game well worth getting just for the fact that it has good AI, interesting story, superb music and surprisingly good gameplay. Recommended if you are a fan of FF, RTS or Good Game.

Final Fantasy Miniature Trading Figures Vol. 1

3 Months in TBA
2 Months in Pending
1 Month in Coming Soon

After finally 6 month ( maybe less, I was exaggerating ) the Final Fantasy Miniature Trading Figures is out. The figure compromise of 5 heroes from the Final Fantasy series

Cloud Strife - Lead character in Final Fantasy VII
Yuna - Female lead in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2
Vaan - Sky pirate from Final Fantasy XII and FFXII Revenant Wings
Penelo - Accompanies Vaan on his adventures and explorations
Rinoa Heartilly - Stalwart of the rebel force in Final Fantasy VIII

Each piece are around 6 CM high. Think of it as a fancy chess piece. Although you would need another two piece of figure to make the game work... Which is where the Vol 2 of Final Fantasy Miniature Trading Figure will come in.

Weapons Set for Final Fantasy Play Arts

Now, to hit it off after the Rowan Atkinson funnies, I found THIS! Its a figurine weapon set featuring weapon from

FFVIII - Lion Heart (Squall Leonhart)
FFVIII - Strange Vision (Selpie Tilmit)
FFX- Caladcolg (Tidus)
FFX - Nirvana (Yuna)
FFX - Masamune (Auron)

I think it could be a one set with 5 type of weapon in it. Or one weapon per set. Regardless, this is one very nice looking set :D

Final Fantasy Miniature Trading Figures Vol. 1

I have been debating this for quite sometime since the Pre-Order was opened a month or so ago. Looking at the art, I can make out Rinoa, Yuna, Cloud, and the other fellow from FF 12 or 13 I believe. But the chick on the far left. I don't know her.

Anyway, should I get it? Or not? Its miniature size which fits my requirement nicely. But at RM 17.24 or USD 4.90 each, its a little bit on the expensive side for me. But then again, the nice art is just too tempting!

Final Fantasy Miniature Trading Figures Vol: 1

To buy or not to buy? That is the question.

P/s: Vol 1? does that mean there is vol 2 and 3 and 4? GAH!

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - Ring of Fates Accessory Set

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - Ring of Fates Accessory Set

Well, the accessory set is finally on sale, although its a far cry from It's A wonderful World set but I expect this set to be sold out pretty fast. The set includes a white stick on protector embossed with Ring Of Fates logo, a screen cleaner made in the form of a moogle and lastly a touch pen. Hastily made and cashed in for the launch of FF:CC. Meh!

When will the Final Fantasy Be Final?

The core of Final Fantasy and the repeated recurring character in this very ( very ) successful series of game is not the NPC but its the summoning. Each character in the series be it CID or Wedge and er Beige? They will come out in different guise but the summoning character comes out in the same guise again and again but with improving effect.

What best way to immortalize them then to have a figurine of them prominently displayed on your shelf, locked up in a plastic case and put high up and out of the way from the dirty hands of kids! Muahahah

I would get them if I have a place to show them off but meh.. My room is a storage room, literally. My only shelf is whack full of books and the figurine cost a bundle. Anyway, less word more pic. So here we go

And yeah I hear you Zorocaster. BUY LAH! meh.. go away. You too Andy!

P/S: I saw this full set in XL-SHOP the other day. They were going for double the price you can get in Play-Asia

Nintendo DS Lite Special Edition ( SE )

The other day a friend of mind sent me a link to this KINGDOM HEARTS SE . I immediately fell in love with it. I wanted to get it but Play-Asia ran out of stock for this particular item. It also doesn't help when the item itself has been out for 4 years already.
Not giving up, I cruise around the net looking for any seller selling it. And LO AND BEHOLD!~ I found a seller from Japan selling that KH SE for 300 USD! Holy Crap! Fine, I give up. The amount is too much for me to stomach. I might like it. But I don't Like it THAT much.

This few days has seen the launching of 2 Nintendo DS Lite Special Edition. One is to commorate 20 years of certain something. ( I had no idea what it is) Apparently it has something to do with trains. Judging by the look of the design on the casing. The NDSL SE comes with a game called Momotarou Dentetsu DS: Tokyo & Japan.

Then I found another one which everyone can relate to. Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings ( -Sky Pirate Edition ). The design of this particular NDSL SE is not really that special. What intrigued me is in the title itself. Sky Pirate Edition? Does that mean there will be more then one edition sold in the future? Heck if there is. I might get it. Of course, if the price is "appropriate" that is.

Pikachu VS Chocobo

What with the recent sales of Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales hitting the shores on most places already and Pokemon Diamond / Pokemon Pearl hitting the shores on the 22nd of April some might be saving the money to get pearl and diamond instead of Chocobo. Personally I have already pre-ordered my Chocobo Tales and waiting it to be delivered from Play-Asia.

The scores for Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales has been slightly misgiving when it was earlier reviewed but apparently the scores lately have been quite high if I may say so.

Below are quoted from various website for Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales

GN (83/100) doesn't want the presentation to fool you, the game is fun for older gamers: "The game might feel a bit "kiddy" in its focus, what with those great, big, cute Chocobo eyes peeking at you from the box art. But even though the idea might skew young, the product is surprisingly enjoyable for the older crowd."

GamePro (80/100) finds the game to be a melting pot of good ideas: "Chocobo Tales is about quick and easy fun. The Crayola art style, pop-up book style graphics and fable stories may make it seem like a kiddie title and technically, it is. However, the game is fun enough that and packed with enough nods to diehard fans that Final Fantasy fans of all ages should give it a look.

EGM though seems to be a bit harsh on Chocobo Tales with a score of Chocobo Tales - 6.0/6.5/6.5

As for Pokemon though, Nintendo has released a new Commercial to hype up the whole Poke Craze Fans ( As if it needed help anymore). I have slight doubt about this game as the whole concept haven't changed for the past 10 years. But I might just get it just to show that I am a good Nintendo boy too :D

Included is a YouTube Video of the said commercial. Enjoy!
