To buy or not to buy: PlayGear Pocket Slim

I am in a dilemma, should I or should I not get the PlayGear Pocket Slim? Interesting enough, there have been quite some mixed reaction/review online on the PlayGear Pocket Slim (PGPS) predecessor, the PlayGear Pocket (PGP).  Some of the stuff I found out online were that, the PGP is heavy and add unnessary weight upon the PSP but this SHOULD not be the case with the PGPS as the slim PSP has their weight already cut down.

Then there is the other problem of does it look good? I know that anyone can customize the PGPS by taking off the rubber and putting in some printout but does the weight outweight the custombility? Then there is one other varying problem. Varying because it does not affect me.(I think?) There is no accessibility for the UMD slot!

Tsk.... I hate this kind of choices. What do you guys think?

Here are some of the features featured on Play-Asia:

• Virtually indestructible polycarbonate armor shell protects your device.
• Easy access to shoulder controls means your PSP™ Slim & Lite is playable even while inside the case.
• Headphone port means you can plug into some tunes, then stow them in your backpack.
• 270-degree adjustable lid can be used as a sunshield for gaming or a stand for watching movies.
• Secure snap closure means your investment stays put.

Invisible Shield on PSP

After much reading and thoughts coupled with interesting offer from Invisible Shield websites, I took the plunge and made an order for a set of shield for my PSP. To keep this narrative readable and make sense, I am going to write it out in a time line. Here we go

The Box! Oooohhh Shiny!

Day 1

Made order through ZAGG. Received a confirmation of order received within the hour

Day 2 – day 15

No confirmation of item sent or any of that sort. Wrote an email requesting for confirmation

Day 16

Received a reply from InvisibleSHIELD Customer Service. Confirmed that order was received 15 days ago and sent 13 days ago.

One rubber scrapper. Checked!

One solution spray. Checked!

Day 17

Received a package from InvisibleSHIELD (Talk about speak of the devil!)

This is the part where everything gets messy. After settling down for the day I took out the package and proceed to take pictures of them which you can see at the bottom.

Lots and lots of sticker. Checked!

The box comes with 5 pieces of shield and one solution to dampen them and your finger

Each piece are specifically for a part of your PSP. They also gave 1 backup piece for the screen and 1 piece for the UMD cover. I understand why later on.

I cleaned my hand as per the instruction given and cleaned my PSP too just in case there is any dirt on it. What happen next is pure sticky hell.

Day 17 (30 minutes later)

I am in a mess as I Untangle the sticker from my PSP and try to stick the sticker onto my battery cover, while trying to make the solution spray to work

Look ma! It's Invisible!

(15 minutes later)

The sticker is finally on! Phew, but that is just a small piece out of a very big part of the device

If you squint hard enough you can see the sticker line

(30 minutes onwards)

I got the other side of the sticker on and the UMD cover sticker on. But the UMD cover is an agonizing moment. This is why.

They see it fit to separate the sticker into 3 parts for the UMD cover. The outer ring, middle ring and inner circle. Common sense dictate that I stick on the inner circle first, followed by the middle ring, what I did not count on was that the sticker is stretchy. When I stick on the outer circle, it refuses to stay in line. What I have after 10 minutes of battle is an unaligned sticker on my UMD. Bah, I can do worse!

Gah! Not aligned!

It is time to tackle the face plate now. And let me just say this. What happened for the past 1 hour and 15 minute is heaven blessed compared to what will happen in the next 1 hour

(Much much later)

The face plate sticker comes in one piece and if you look at your PSP, you will see a lot of buttons. And those stickers do not cover the buttons. So to sort out the mess, you will have to really wet your finger with the solution, use all the solution onto the face plate sticker and then stick it onto the face plate. Take your time and be really, really, really patient. I have to reapply that particular part especially around the buttons a few times before I finally got it on.

And this is the end result of it

That looks half decent eh?

Not aligned... Nvm nobody will notice

Uh.....

Er... at least it didn't run THAT far...

After all said and done, I did not manage to break or tear any of the sticker, I have yet to apply the screen protector either. But there are quite a number of bubbles inside my PSP shield now. The instruction says that the bubble will dissolve by itself in a few days time. So I guess I will wait?

Conclusion:
The sticker is hell to apply, the solution given by them is not sufficient and the bottle will fail you at THE most critical moment
The Invisible Shield is also scratch resistant. I tried. No scratch.
The shield does not leave finger prints or anything of that sort. In fact the only trace that its there is the not so smooth feel which is not noticeable unless you are looking, the edge of the sticker where I fail to apply proportionally and also the bubbles..
A piece of advice if you are applying this sticker. DO NOT SKIM ON THE SOLUTION! Spray it on as if its life depends on it

Star Ocean Second Evolution Accessories Set

I have a dilemma. Day in day out I wonder what color should I get for my "future" psp? White? Black? Lavender? Blue? or Pink?? My girl wanted the pink one which I do not mind but... really now.. Pink? Looking at my body size that is as unlikely as me walking the fashion walkway with half my clothes unbuttoned and posing for camera!

So again, I check the bible for games. The place where I find solution for it all. The place where I does most of my research before purchasing any game related item. PLAY-ASIA! I looked and looked for some PSP that might suit my taste or for something that will enhance my "future" PSP and what I found is Star Ocean Second Evolution Accessories Set by Hori! The accessory set which I am not mistaken (its all in Japanese) comes with

• Face Plate Cover adorned with Star Ocean Design
• Ear phone
• UMD Case Cover
• Screen Cleaner

Pretty neat stuff to transform your PSP piece into a manly fantasy piece from a girly Ibuyitbecausemygirlfriendswantthiscolor.

Tv Tuner for DS ( Lite )

You could have probably seen it coming from a mile away. I for one did not. Apparently this Tv Tuner uses only slot 1 and allows user to tune it to whatever channel they want manually. The top screen is used as the TV while the bottom screen is used as the remote. Pretty interesting stuff. There is only one minor little problem. Can it work?

Did I mention that this is an OFFICIAL product from Nintendo?

Review: Pocket Book DS Lite

Well then, about time I reviewed the Pocket Book DS Lite (orange). No? I received the Pocket Book back in September 18, 2007 and promised to review it. Well, 2 weeks down the road and I finally got my ass down in front of my laptop to review it. Anyway, enough chit chat and on with the main course

The Pocket book is a very nice looking pouch, its half leather and half jean cloth. both are stiff and hard to the touch but the inside are leather wrapped and nice to the feel. The pocket book gives a feel that you are holding a small diary that people used to use before the appearance of PDA or Cell phone :P. Granted, this makes it that when you are playing your NDSL with the pocket book while taking the tram will make you look scholarly and high class. ( we all wanna pretend for the chick across from us don't we?

The inside of the pocket book though is a bit disheartening for black or dark blue NDSL user. As you can see from the picture, the pocket book stick onto the bottom of your NDSL. This leaves the flap hanging then your NDSL is open with no protection or wrapping on the top of your NDSL, and as all Black or Blue NDSL user knows, this will leave your NDSL prone to finger print and what not.

The strap that binds the pocket book is also feels a bit hard. ( if you know what I mean) The button on the strap, straps and lock the pocket book tight. But they added this other feature where you can pull out the strap or keep it back in to make the NDSL being bound tight or less tight. I have no idea why they do that now but I hope I will find out the reason in the future.

As mentioned earlier, the bottom of the pocket book is adorned with two very small looking cello tape thingy to allow the pocket book to stick onto the NDSL. I have been told that the tape is strong and are made of very good quality. Interesting but I still don't like it.

Conclusion:

All in all, the pocket book ds lite is a very stylish casing for your NDSL. If you are using any NDSL but blue and black then this is a very good protection/fashion accessories . But if you are using black and blue and know the hardship of wiping clean your bodily cell or dust from your NDSL, you might want to think twice about purchasing this. What about protection you say? Well, this is a leather cover. not a pouch. The protection on the side are minimum. But who needs protection when you can look cool!

Gaming on the Slide and Sega on the Roll

If you would allow me to let my pun slide ( yet again ) I would like to highlight the price drop for a week on Play-Asia for the Slide Adventure: Mag Kid game which is currently on sale for a mere US 29.90 ( RM 102 ). Considering that this game comes with a slot two accessories, at US 29.90, Slide Adventure: Mag Kid is a pretty good deal. Although the slot two accessories only allow player to play the game on hard and smooth surface kind of make the game redundant its still a novelty to purchase at US 29.90.

More purchase information for Slide Adventure: Mag Kid can be found HERE

I also found this during my ritual Play-Asia browsing earlier. Sega History Collection Gashapon which ran out of stock in 2004 is currently back in stock. Do not ask me where they find it, but the matter remains that they have it on sale now. Retailing at the slight price of US 3.90 ( RM 13.81 ) the Sega History Collection Gashapon is a pretty good collection for those golden oldies time when Sega dominate the world and was not reduced to a mere one roomed company.

Each with different cartridge of games ranging from the classic Ice Climber all the way to The Legend of Zelda. all 5 of the design also features different GBA SP available. I particularly likedc the Famicom GBA so I got the Super Mario Bros version. But apparently there are 2 particular Famicon version of GBA available.
