MPH Warehouse Sales

So MPH is having this warehouse sales over at their warehouse (duh). I like their warehouse sales, they will always load in all the good books there and not only the old books. But new ones too. Some of the title that I manage to get are

The Children of Hurin by J.R.R Tolkien HARDCOVER for only RM25
Magician: Apprentice by Raymond E. Feist for only RM10
The Adventure of Indiana Jones for RM15
and the most expensive one,
How Starbucks Saved My Life by Michael Gill for RM26

All this total up to no more than RM66. HALF the price if I were to purchase 4 of the same book at any other bookstore. If you guys have time over this weekend, head over to

Ground Floor Warehouse

Bangunan TH

MPH Warehouse

NO 5 Jalan Bersatu 13/4

Petaling Jaya

Its very simple to get there, if you are coming from PJ, head to Rothman roundabouts, turn into the junction across from the hotel and beside the newspaper factory. (The road heading towards the Mosque and Digital mall). Then keep going until you hit a second junction beside Colgate Palmolive on your left. You won't miss the junction as a HUGE banner indicating the warehouse sale is there. Then just go straight untill you hit a jam/lots of car/lots of people.

MPH warehouse is on your right.

The amount of books I have

Is staggering! In a month I can purchase up to 3 books at least! One way or another, I will find a book to read just to past my time. this is especially more evident since my GF has move back to Johor Bahru. I have more free time in my hand and more boredom to deal with.

What do I do then? I read! and may god, my family member, my gf and my bank accountant be my witness. I purchase lots and lots of books and thank god I am running out of books to read. I have already devoured all books by Richard A Knaak, John Grisham, R. A Salvatore and Micheal Crichton. Right now, I am in the midst of carnage reading through Jim Butcher's novel.

To get an idea of what book I own or going to own, check out the new widget I implemented today on my side bar. If you guys have a suggestions of what books/author that is good. Do leave a note. I might need a new source of entertainment to go for.

P/S: I don't really do anything except games & books. Movies are kind of hard. Don't like to watch em alone. So I need recommendation on books!

Harry Potter Carrefour Rush!

ITS P DAY! Aye, A lot of kids and adults are screaming in delight or Anguish depending on whats happening to them. And yes, Today is POTTER day!

2 thing first.

Carrefour and Tesco decided to sell the FINAL Harry Potter book at a 40 ringgit discount to consumer. Aye, They are selling it at RM69.90. Thats 20 USD FYI. Anyway, This of course created quite a huge uproar among the 4 retailer. MPH, Popular, Times and Harris bookstores. They have decided to not sell the Last Harry Potter book as a show that they are not marking up the price to RM109 on purpose. Kudos to them you say.

I say they just shot themselves in the foot. 7 times too. As you can see, Kinokuniya and Borders are continuing to sell it. Carrefour and Tesco does not feel the sting at all. The ONLY person that got affected is the readers itself. Not a smart move.

Read more about it HERE.

2ndly

I woke up at 6.30 this morning, confident that no one will be lining up at the Carrefour in Sri Petaling. Reaching there at around 6.50, my confident was further reinforced with the lack of car there. I was screaming in joy and silently celebrating my small victory.

Boy, was I ever so wrong.

No biggie, I calmed down and lined up. And for the 2nd time in that day, I am confident that all this will proceed calmly and orderly. Meh, I was wrong again. And this is what happened next

1) The shutter opened
2) The auntie and uncle in the front Sprinted across the first 6 feet into the entrance, rolled under the still opening shutter, Jumped up ala Jacky Chan style and sprinted for the Harry Potter book!
3)Orderly line was gone, everyone was running at this point
4) Grab the book and line up at the counter again after some treasure hunt inside Carrefour. ( They kept the book in some obscure place)
5) I was prepared to fling a bottle of Red Bull at the first person that screamed " I GOT THE BOOK", Thankfully the projectile stay in my bag and they left the scene unscathed.
6) You know who got the first book and paid for it? An Auntie. A very OLD auntie. I guess all those jogging helps huh.
Thats a LONG Queue...
Everyone is either eagerly flipping through the book or trying to look as normal as possible
Check out the Queue !
Anyway, The first 100 person that bought the book will be able to get a free gift. I was fully prepared for some funky Harry Potter style paper bag or something. But... Let's just say today is Not my day.

Nice bag is a good start to nice stuff.. Right? NOT!
A colouring book and a Pen! WTF
At Least this one is nice

Character: Drizzt Do'Urden

Drizzt Do'Urden, one of the most confused character I have ever encountered in a book. He was born in a society of darkness. Where killing is revered, enslaving others are a trade and every dark corner of the shadow means 3 blade waiting to slice a person's throat apart. Drizzt himself is an optimistic person. Although born and thought to be as ruthless as possible. He despise the society he lives in and strives to help anyone and everyone. He has vow never to kill a single humanoid. Except for Orcs,Goblins and various other evil incarnation.

Drizzt carries a magical figurine (a "Figurine of wondrous power (Onyx Panther)"), which summons his Black Panther called Guenhwyar, Guenhwyar is superbly intelligent and is the closest allies to Drizzt.

His main weapons are his two scimitars, named Twinkle and Icingdeath. Twinkle is a magical elven-forged blade. It emits a blue hue when held, reflecting the starlight its creator held dear. It is now known by Drizzt that he can control its light by so willing it. Icingdeath was found in the treasures of a white dragon of the same name, whom Drizzt and Wulfgar slew together in the first series of Icewind Dale Trilogy. It gives its wielder protection from any form of fire. Before this in the first Trilogy of the Legend of Drizzt, he weilds 2 scimitars forged by the greatest smith in Menzoberranzan and taken from the armory of the house of Do'Urden. The weapon served him long and well before it finally broke when he left the dark world of the underdark.

What really interest me in this character is how confused he can be, how he strive to see the good in everyone even though some would be repulsed by that idea alone. How he live alone before he found his companion. The length he goes to, to protect the one closest to him, how angst he was when he battled his mentor in scimitar and finally forced to watch his mentor/father die in an effort to save Drizzt's life. His skill with his scimitar can be said as a dance that is as elegant as a flowing water yet deadly. When he wields his scimitar, it has been said that quite a number of people will be mesmerized at how fast it twirl and how it dance a dance of death.

For those interested in him, you might want to look around for the novel. The Legend Of Drizzt.
Start from the first book in the legend series and you will be surprised of what you find there.

Diablo : The Sin War

If you call yourself Diablo fans, then you should really know that Diablo spawned quite a huge amount of novels. Some of the noted titles are as follows

Diablo: The kingdom of Shadows
Diablo: Moon of the Spider
Diablo: The Black Road
Diablo: The Legacy of Blood

One of the latest series are Diablo: The Sin War 1 – Birthright release last year somewhere during October last year. The story chronicles about the early years before the Sin war and how two brothers are in the middle of a struggle between demon and angels. Below is an excerpt taken from the book

Since the beginning of time, the angelic forces of the High Heavens and the demonic hordes of the Burning Hells have been locked in an eternal conflict for the fate of all Creation. That struggle has now spilled over into Sanctuary -- the world of men. Determined to win mankind over to their respective causes, the forces of good and evil wage a secret war for mortal souls. This is the tale of the Sin War -- the conflict that would forever change the destiny of man.
Three thousand years before the darkening of Tristram, Uldyssian, son of Diomedes, was a simple farmer from the village of Seram. Content with his quiet, idyllic life, Uldyssian is shocked as dark events rapidly unfold around him. Mistakenly blamed for the grisly murders of two traveling missionaries,Uldyssian is forced to flee his homeland and set out on a perilous quest to redeem his good name. To his horror, he has begun to manifest strange new powers -- powers no mortal man has ever dreamed of. Now, Uldyssian must grapple with the energies building within him -- lest they consume the last vestiges of his humanity.

It’s a pretty good book to see how everything started in the world of Diablo. The author of this book is Richard A Knaak, one of my favourite author. He previously wrote for Dragonlance series and Warcraft series too. Anyway the point of this blog is to tell you all that the latest installment in Diablo: The Sin War is out. Entitled as Diablo: The Sin War 2 – Scaled of the Serpent, the story follows Uldyssian’s quest to destroy the Triune while oblivious to the danger that lurks in the shadow. Below is an excerpt taken from the second installment of The Sin War.

Bent on destroying the evil cult of the Triune, Uldyssian does not yet suspect that Inarius (secret Prophet of the Cathedral of Light) has been subtly aiding his quest. Obsessed with restoring Sanctuary to its former glory, Inarius has been playing Uldyssian against the two great religions in a reckless attempt to topple them both. But another player has slipped back into the equation. The demon Lilith, once Inarius's lover, seeks to use Uldyssian as her own pawn in a scheme to turn humans into an army of naphalem -- godlike beings, more powerful than any angel or demon, who could overturn all Creation and elevate Lilith to supreme being.

Get the latest installment in your nearest bookstore. For those that are located in KL, head over to Kinokuniya.
