DS Fan Translation: Ragnarok Online

What do you do if there is a game that you really really want to play yet you have no idea what the heck they are going on about in the game? Some case in point would be the new Ragnarok Online DS (which I have a bone to pick in the naming of the game but that is for another post)

What do you do then? Do you go online and look for the gamefaq translation (which takes the fun out of the game, literally) Do you go buy the guide book (which is non-existence)? Or if you are those studious type, you might grab a dictionary and proceed to check the words against the dictionary one by one (Which is either very stupid or very smart) or you can go online and hope/pray/beg well, maybe not beg for a fan translation of the game.

Anyway, I did a bit of a search online for the said game and see if there are any crazed fan boy that will do the translation and after a bit of tree shaking, digging and shifting through lots of post, I came upon this site yet again
GBATEMP, a site that covers anything and everything that even remotely spells Nintendo.

And one particular thread caught my tired eyes. RAGNAROK ONLINE DS TRANSLATION. Yes! The translation there is ongoing and they barely have the patch running but the point of the matter is this. ITS THERE! Keep an eye out on the thread if you want a translation but PLEASE! PLEASE! Do not ask anything stupid there as everything you need to know is already there. Just read.

Yellox Wong Crits Poring for 9999 Damage

I didn't realize that part of the job description of being the MD of a company is to be the MC for events also. Well, I was enlightened over the weekend with the antics of Yellox Wong as the MD of Gameflier, the company which brought us Ragnarok Online in Malaysia.

Beg me if you want more of this!

What I must say is that Yellox really knows how to stir up the crowd with his antics. There were small competitions where he pull the crowd up to to the stage to make the cutest posture while eating ice-cream. And the winner is an old auntie doing a Jet li kung fu flying eagle post and a young man posting as a cute bunny. *Belch visibly*

After the competition Yellox decided to STIR up the crowd again with a bit of prize giving. And his choice of distributing the prize? Throwing it into the crowd and letting the vulture feast upon themselves. Not a pretty sight at all. :/
This is where the ugly and greedy part of Malaysian starts to show, just for a few book the crowd started pushing and pulling on each other. Best mud wrestling I ever saw. Except there is no mud.

Did I mention that one of the prizes turn into a flying projectile ala Ninja style when Yellox threw it? Oh yeah. and It was headed towards me. My survival instinct kicked in and I was rolling against the floor before the "prize" soar across my head and hit a guy on the head. But hey, he got a prize for his trouble.

I look cute don't I?

After the ensuing struggle, Yellox invited 2 fellow which I had no idea who up the stage for some piano show and solo. And boy, do they SUCK! Bleh, the piano was actually not half bad but the Solo guy has better bring his lethal voice somewhere else. Whoever you are mate, Learn to sing before you learn to perform.

Awed by a game. Toys Story, RO and WoW

I remember long ago a piece of demo CD was given to me. Its my first interactive game. The story begins a few weeks after the launching of the movie Toy Story. It was the hype of the year. The first lauded animation. And the game was nice enough to keep me occupied for sometime.

The one thing that I remembered about the game was how it started. The screen started with a view of Andy's room. Woody then walks in and lean onto YOUR monitor screen. Then Buzz comes in, knock on your monitor while woody stamp his face onto your monitor trying to look out of his screen. This is the part which I remembered most. How the character break the 5th wall. or was it the 4th? Anyway, thinking back, I was awed at the sheer effect of the game however simple it was that time.

The other game that truly awed me is Ragnarok Online and World Of Warcraft. I graduated from console games, EG GBA and moved onto Ragnarok Online. From there I met the best of friends I can remember. I learnt about economics, the rule of trades and the ugly side of the human called Malaysian. I remembered the time when my body Tingled all over when the opening theme of RO pipe through the speaker. How I stayed up all night trying to become the MVP, how I singled handedly killed off an MVP at lvl 50, how we discovered the superiority of cards over power, and how I met the two finest guild mate I have ever known. Konoha Guild and Nocturnal Guild. Wherever you guyz are. Kudos to you

From there I graduated towards WoW. I remembered spending 2 days downloading the game via Direct Download and then playing the game for 5 days during beta. I was blown away, I spend 3 hour exploring the first town in the Night Elf city. I spent my first night in Feralas at lvl 20! And I spent my first time running from a ?? Undead thinking they are hacking. And the ocean strider. I remembered the time where I used Eagle eye to look at the huge behemoth walking pass me..

Those were the times.. I wonder when will it be the next time I will be awed by a game.I miss the day where I can be awed by a game..
